Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is a mission critical technology in the roadmap to decarbonize the cement and concrete industries. In June 2025, Heidelberg Materials launched the first industrial scale CCS project at the cement manufacturing facility in Brevik, Norway. This breakthrough technology is up and running now allowing Heidelberg Materials to offer evoZero Carbon Captured Brevik, a high-quality carbon captured cement enabling net-zero concrete. Once the CCS system at Brevik is fully optimized, Brevik is expected to capture 400,000 metric tons of CO2 for permanent storage per year. This presentation will explain what makes Carbon Capture and Storage such a critical technology and how it can be used to reduce Scope 3 emissions for project teams.
