Our Story

NEU was established by the American Concrete Institute to collaborate globally to drive education, awareness and adoption of the use of carbon neutral materials and technologies in the built environment.

An outline of a city street with trees in front of the buildings; the buildings are connected with dashed lines to a recycling symbol, the sun and an electricity symbol.

Our world’s climate crisis has moved the cement and concrete industry to consider technologies that can successfully reduce CO2 emissions. The best path to take can be hard to discern with an over-abundance of information available from a multitude of sources. It’s not easy for companies to decipher the best technologies and materials to use, and sometimes, good information can get lost in the shuffle.

This is where we come in.

At NEU: An ACI Center of Excellence for Carbon Neutral Concrete, we realize that it is important that as new technologies come forward, they are vetted and assessed for their efficacy.

To accomplish this, NEU has taken on several core functions:

  • Creating a process to assess and validate the claims of innovative and new materials/technologies associated with low carbon concrete production

  • Creating educational resources and programs pertaining to carbon neutral concrete production and placement.

  • Representing the supply side and demand side

  • Being collaborative; supporting regional and global efforts, roadmaps, etc.

  • Assisting government agencies in decision making surrounding carbon neutral concrete

NEU was established by the American Concrete Institute to collaborate globally to drive education, awareness, and adoption of the use of carbon neutral materials and technologies in the built environment.  NEU has seen rapid growth since its founding and we encourage participation in our Center to help the industry meet carbon neutral goals.
