Our Story

NEU was established by the American Concrete Institute to lead the global concrete industry in advancing low-carbon and sustainable concrete technologies, empowering all stakeholders to create a resilient built environment.

An outline of a city street with trees in front of the buildings; the buildings are connected with dashed lines to a recycling symbol, the sun and an electricity symbol.

Our world’s climate crisis has moved the cement and concrete industry to consider technologies that can successfully reduce CO2 emissions. The best path to take can be hard to discern with an over-abundance of information available from a multitude of sources. It’s not easy for companies to decipher the best technologies and materials to use, and sometimes, good information can get lost in the shuffle.

This is where we come in.

NEU was established in 2022 by the American Concrete Institute to address advancing the reduction of carbon in the built environment. The Center, based at ACI World Headquarters in Farmington Hills, Michigan, USA, leverages ACI’s role as a world-leading authority and resource for the development, dissemination, and adoption of consensus-based standards for concrete design, construction, and materials. NEU's membership is open to government agencies, industries, technical societies, standard bodies, manufacturers, contractors, and professionals.
