The American Concrete Institute (ACI) and NEU: An ACI Center of Excellence for Carbon Neutral Concrete successfully concluded their participation at Big 5 Global 2025. Held at the Dubai World Trade Centre from November 24-27, the organizations hosted the "Concrete Talks powered by ACI and the ACI UAE Chapter" sessions, bringing technical expertise to one of the construction industry's most influential events.
The sessions served as a platform for engineers, researchers, and industry professionals to explore the future of the built environment. Discussions centered on critical advancements in sustainable concrete design, structural durability, and construction technology.
Key presentations addressed the industry's urgent need for low-carbon solutions and innovations in concrete materials. A primary focus of the event was the introduction of resources to support carbon neutrality, including the NEU Low-Carbon Concrete Guide: Materials. This resource offers guidance for professionals seeking to implement sustainable practices in their projects.
ACI leadership, including Managing Director of Communications and Marketing Brian Wheeler, and Distinguished Engineer Khaled Nahlawi, PhD, PE, delivered technical presentations. Nahlawi’s session on "Building Sustainable and Resilient Concrete Structures" offered insights into ACI Code-318-25 Appendix C, defining the scope of sustainability measures in modern design.
"The Concrete Talks powered by ACI and the ACI UAE Chapter sessions provide an opportunity to share practical, research-based knowledge that helps the global construction community advance concrete excellence," said Ahmad Mhanna, ACI Director for the Middle East and North Africa Region.
By engaging with the estimated 85,000 visitors at Big 5 Global, ACI and NEU reinforced their commitment to education and leadership. Their contributions enhanced the technical depth of the event, driving the adoption of resilient and sustainable concrete solutions worldwide.
